The ACP Quality Champion 2014 Awards were announced at ACP's first annual Quality Improvement (QI) reception, held at Internal Medicine 2014 in Orlando, Fla., in early April. The reception was held to celebrate the accomplishments of ACP Quality Connect, ACP's re-launched national quality improvement network, and to recognize the leadership of ACP QI champions from around the country.

Prominent speakers addressed Board of Governors at fall meeting

The September meeting of the ACP Board of Governors featured Don Berwick, MD, the Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Service, who spoke about health care and delivery system reform. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius addressed the Governors through a video message and introduced Dr. Berwick. David Blumenthal, FACP, MPP, the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, also spoke to the Governors about fostering the meaningful use of electronic health records.

College Master awarded National Research for Women and Families honor

Omega C. Logan Silva, MACP, the second African-American woman to earn an ACP Mastership, has been awarded the Foremother Award of the National Research Center for Women & Families. Dr. Silva was the first woman president of Howard University Medical Alumni Association, the second African-American president of the American Medicine Women's Association, the founder of the International Women in Medicine, and winner of the Bertha Van Hoosen Award. Dr. Silva is well known for her long-time advocacy efforts for universal health care and ongoing support of women in medicine.
