Governance Committee seeks Regent candidates for 2023

Regent nominees must be either an FACP or MACP. All candidates for Regent must declare their intent to become a candidate by Aug. 1.

The Governance Committee oversees the process for nominating and electing MACPs and FACPs of the College to the Board of Regents (BOR) and is beginning the process of seeking Regents to join the Board in April 2023.

The Governance Committee strives to represent the diversity within internal medicine on ACP's Board of Regents. Important general qualifications include commitment to ACP, dependability, leadership qualities, and the ability to represent the College in numerous and diverse arenas. Regent nominees must be either an FACP or MACP.

All candidates for Regent must declare their intent to become a candidate by Aug. 1. Once declared, candidates will be provided with additional information to complete the nomination packet and submit the following materials, no later than Sept. 1:

  • Three letters of recommendation (not from the candidate)
  • Biographical sketch
  • Personal statement (maximum 250-word limit)
  • Response to standardized questions
  • Current curriculum vitae
  • Current photo (color head shot preferred, at least 2” high, 300 dpi)
  • Disclosure of Interests submission
  • Agreement to adhere to CMSS Code for Interactions with Companies

Letters of recommendation should describe the special attributes the candidate would bring to the BOR in terms of the desired characteristics outlined above. Letters of recommendation do not need to have specific content or format but will be most useful if they focus on the candidate's qualifications and how they would contribute to the BOR and College.

Potential candidates should also consider potential conflicts of interest in their other organizational activities because of the varied and diverse activities of the College and its members. Both perceived and actual conflicts should be avoided during terms of service as a Regent, which is a fiduciary role requiring those elected to fulfill the duty of loyalty to ACP. Note that ACP prohibits financial relationships with some for-profit entities while a member of the BOR.

Please contact Lauren Cruz at acpgovernance@acponline.org no later than Aug. 1 to declare your intent to be a candidate for Regent. Only candidates who declare their candidacy by Aug. 1 and complete their submission packet by Sept. 1 will be advanced to the Governance Committee for review.
