Physical activity program for older adults linked to long-term improvements in function
Older adults with reduced lower-limb physical functioning treated with a 12-month, group-based physical activity and behavior maintenance program had greater improvements in function than those who received educational sessions on healthy aging, an English trial found.

Fourth doses, stealth variant, rapid tests focus of latest COVID-19 research
A fourth vaccine dose increased antibodies but didn't significantly reduce infections in an Israeli study. Antibody response is similar with the stealth variant and with the original omicron variant, a small study showed. Other research found that a rapid antigen test caught most omicron infections, and the vaccines weren't associated with neurological conditions.

New research on PASC, COVID-19 infection and vaccination during pregnancy
Two studies analyzed postacute sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC) in older and ICU patients. Other new research showed that symptomatic infection during delivery raised risks in pregnant women but vaccination during pregnancy was safe. An ACP/Annals of Internal Medicine forum focused on outpatient management of COVID-19, and the FDA issued an emergency use authorization for a new monoclonal antibody treatment.
