No link seen between calcium intake with or without vitamin D and CVD in healthy adults

Obtaining calcium from food rather than supplements is preferred, but supplements can be used safely in patients whose calcium intake is not sufficient, the report said.

Guidance issued on drug-drug interactions for statins, heart meds

A new statement from the American Heart Association recommends that in patients taking amlodipine combined with simvastatin or lovastatin, the dosage of either statin should not exceed 20 mg/d, and for patients in whom statin-fibrate therapy is indicated, fenofibrate or fenofibric acid is preferred because of a lower rate of drug-drug interactions.

Cervical cancer screening may be able to occur later, less often in HPV-vaccinated women, study suggests

When compared with no intervention, vaccination alone with no screening produced a 64.6% mean reduction in lifetime cervical cancer risk, and screening strategies increased this risk reduction to a range of 88% to 98%. The lowest cost-effectiveness ratio was seen with cytology-only screening every 5 years starting at age 35, compared with vaccination alone.

CDC recommends change to HPV vaccination schedule

Three doses had previously been recommended, but studies have suggested that 2 doses are just as effective in children who begin vaccination before age 15, the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices decided.
