Working to ‘unplug,’ and a call for civility

Philip A. Masters, MD, FACP, continues his monthly column on KevinMD with posts about protecting personal time and promoting civility in the workplace.

Philip A. Masters, MD, FACP, ACP's Vice President of Membership and International Programs, continues his monthly column on KevinMD.

In one post, Dr. Masters looks at the reasons for and the harms of using work-related technology in what should be considered personal time. “It seems as though there is no longer such a thing as time off, and truly being ‘out-of-office’ is a thing of the past,” Dr. Masters writes.

Another post discusses the consequences of incivility among physicians and how doctors can practice and promote civility.

“The solution to doctors behaving badly is for us as physicians to take responsibility, both individually and collectively, to promote a culture of civility in our professional relationships and in the care of our patients,” Dr. Masters writes.
