ACP, Society to Improve Diagnosis in Medicine produce case-based resource to improve diagnosis

Cases were designed to encourage thinking around diagnostic decision-making, identify problems that may occur in the diagnostic process, and demonstrate how diagnostic errors may affect both patients and the daily practice of medicine.

ACP and the Society to Improve Diagnosis in Medicine (SIDM) have partnered to produce “Getting It Right: Cases to Improve Diagnosis.” The cases were designed to encourage thinking around diagnostic decision-making, identify problems that may occur in the diagnostic process, and demonstrate how diagnostic errors may affect both patients and the daily practice of medicine.

The cases cover the following topics:

  • Understanding the Diagnostic Process
  • Analyzing Cognitive and Systems Contributions to Diagnostic Errors
  • Partnering with Patients and Families in the Diagnostic Decision-Making Process
  • Physician and Patient Factors in Diagnostic Decision-Making
  • Recognizing and Responding to Diagnostic Errors

Getting It Right: Cases to Improve Diagnosis” is available for free for ACP members (with their ACP login) online. This resource is eligible for CME/MOC credit.
