Robert “Bob” B. Gibbons, MD, MACP, died on March 13, 2019, at age 81.

Dr. Gibbons served as Governor of the ACP Colorado Chapter from 1993 to 1997 and was a past member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Regents and multiple committees.

He received his medical degree in 1963 from the University of Utah before entering the U.S. Army Medical Corps and completing his internal medicine training in 1967 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. In 1973, Dr. Gibbons completed his rheumatology fellowship at the University of Washington in Seattle.

During his Army career, he served as chief of medicine at the U.S. Army Hospital in Munich, Germany, and eventually served as chief of medicine and program director of the internal medicine residency at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Wash. Over the course of his military service, he cared for dignitaries including President Dwight D. Eisenhower and Gen. Douglas MacArthur.

After retiring from the Army, Dr. Gibbons became director of the internal medicine residency program at Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver, where he trained more than 900 residents for more than 30 years.
